Basically the responsibility of substantiation lies on you as the tax payer. In the case of an audit you are required to provide documents, receipts, bank statements and calculations etc. to support your Activity Statement claim. If the ATO is not satisfied with what is provided they can basically adjust your BAS based on what they think is "reasonable" e.g. they may adjust your sales based on the benchmarks applicable to your industry. |
