Jacobsens chalks up another record claim

Husband and wife ‘fishing machines’, Guy and Eryn Jacobsen, have continued their record-breaking ways, this time in Nova Scotia, where Eryn landed a 911lb (412.68kg) Atlantic bluefin tuna.

The Jacobsens, along with their regular skipper John Batterton, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they targeted bluefin tuna aboard Dale ‘Zappa’ Trenholmes’ 13.4m vessel, Zappa.
Fishing an area known as Fishermans Bank, a shallow ridge running between Cape George and Prince Edward Island, they enjoyed a great few initial days and some amazing fights.
Guy was fishing 15 and 24kg line, and at one point spent 10 hours on 15kg tackle before finally breaking the line when well into the night.
The next day they were back out among the herring boats, watching the giant fish crash among the baits.
“We started chumming, and within minutes had a bunch of tuna from 500lb to over 1000lb feeding right alongside the boat - it was one of the most impressive sights you’ll ever see,” John Batterton says.
Eryn was set up in the chair on 24kg tackle, and a herring bait was pitched and engulfed almost immediately, the angler just hanging on as the fish bolted.
Chasing it down for over an hour, finally the fish began to show signs of tiring as some serious drag was applied, which also saw the angler spending a great deal of time out of her seat.
“The fish started pin-wheeling under the boat, and Kiwi crewman Mark Vazey was able to get a wrap and hang on; after an awesome effort, the fish was alongside.”
“We knew straight away it was big enough to beat the record and everyone was buzzing - Eryn had done a hell of a job.”
“We couldn’t believe how big it was as it was pulled out of the water, eventually halting the scales at 911 pounds. If ratified, it will have smashed the existing record of 500lbs caught way back in 1950.

THIS monster of the deep- a 314kg northern bluefin tuna - was brought into Mooloolaba one day, and two days later was sold at a Tokyo fish market for almost $41,000.

The fish, for comparison purposes, weighed about three times more than giant Broncos rugby league prop Petero Civoniceva.

Brett Taylor, of Four Seasons Seafood Exporters, said the tuna, rarely seen in Queensland waters, was caught about 300km off the Sunshine Coast.

"Mooloolaba would see fish like him two to three times a year," Mr Taylor said. "He was a lovely fish."

Mr Taylor said the tuna was caught by Mooloolaba long-liner Scorpion, skippered by Steve Goodes.

He said Four Seasons had four boats that fished the waters off south-east Queensland.

Long-liners use a 70km monofilament line fitted with about 1500 hooks.

Mr Taylor said the Four Seasons fleet usually fished for yellowfin and bigeye tuna, as well as swordfish.

He said the bluefin, unlike yellowfin and bigeye tuna, were not found in schools.

"He is a more solitary animal, a predator," he said.

"The lions of the sea."

The Pacific variety of northern bluefin tuna can grow to three metres long and 450kg.

According to the International Game Fish Association, the all-tackle record was 325kg off New Zealand in 1997.

的确， 最近catch rate 很不稳定， 我那天运气比较好，特别是我礼拜四那天albacore狂咬，SBT 咬口也不错，但最近两天普遍收获都很一般， 等收获稳定点再去。

看见阿宝,就想起Tuna. 可惜不如TUNA罐头实在
