There is a little girl called Dorothy. She has rosy cheeks and a pair of black little eyes just like sesames. She has a good friend, a tabby pussy cat called “Mi Mi”. They like to hang around together. Sometimes in the garden under the gum trees and sometimes under the quilts in bed.

One summer afternoon they got very bored and wanted to find something to do.

“why don’t we find some mouse holes?”, suggested Mimi.

“Mouse holes?  Why?”, asked Dorothy.

“Well, so nwe can find some mice for my dinner.” , said Mimi.

“But I have bought you some cat biscuits from the supermarket. You could have those for your dinner.”

“Well, I certainly could. But… you know. I appreciate your kindness to buy me nice cat foods. But they’re…quite dry and make my teeth ache sometimes…and I don't like that much, you know.”

“Well, well, ok. I know you love the tastes of the mice. So let’s look for some mouse holes together.”

Off they went, peeping here and there to look for the mouse holes.  They climbed onto the trees and couldn’t find any. Then they thruster under the bushes but still no luck.

“Let’s try the rose garden,” Said Dorothy.

They went to the rose garden where there were red roses, pink ones, blue ones, white ones and purple ones.  “The mice might love the scent of the roses and make their homes here,” Said Dorothy.

“let’s try our luck,” said the Mimi, who was still sniffing here and there.

And guess what? They found a very little hole with leaves covering it so that if they didn't look very closely, they wouldn't find it.

“This must be it!” exclaimed Mimi.

Mimi can’t help his excitement. He quickly put one of his paw into the hole but it is too small and his paw is too big.  “what should we do now?” he said. He looked puzzled and did’n't  know what to do.

Dorothy was thinking hard, ” I have an idea!” she said: ” Have you gone fishing before?  “

”No”

“OK, when people go fishing, they use a rod with a hook on the end and they tie some meat to the hook so that fish will bite onto it and then they are caught. So… why don’t we go mousing!!!”

“Go Mousing??”

“Yes, just like fishing. We use a stick and some ropes and then we put something at the end of it as well to attract the mice. When the mice come to eat it, we will pull the rope out and then we will catch the mice.  "OK,"said mimi, "What do mice like to eat?”

“Cheese!”  said Dorothy and Mimi together.

Well, they are on their way and soon they got a chopstick, some ropes and a piece of cheese. They tie the rope at the end of the chopstick and put the cheese on the end of the rope.

Slowly they throw the rope into the hole and waited.

“How long do we have to wait?” asked Mimi.

“I don’t know. You have to be patient, you know. When people go fishing, they are very patient and they could wait for many hours.”

“Many hours! I will starved to death by then.”

“Xu… Don’t be silly, Mimi. We will wait and see.”

And they waited.  30 minutes passed but still not a single rat neared to the cheese.

45 minutes passed. “They can’t be visiting their relatives and not at home.” Said Mimi.

Just at that moment, they heard there were very little sounds of murmuring and singing, which was coming nearer and nearer.  They hid themselves under the leaves and peeped out. You know what they saw?  A family of mice. Mr. Mouse in his black suit and hat. Mrs. Mouse in her blue ribbon dress and pearl necklace and their daughter little Miss Mouse in her pink dress with laces and a matching pick hair pin. They were all dressed up and must have visited their relatives and come home now. They all looked cheerful and content, as if they had just had a big meal.

Dorothy and Mimi watched them dancing into their home, the little mice hole.

“You know what?” said Dorothy, ” Be a good cat and just eat your biscuits. If you eat one of them, I’m sure the rest of the family members will be very sad and spend the rest of their life missing their lost loved one.  I bet they will!”

“My dear smart girl, I bet you are right.  OK, I will just make do with the biscuits.  But, if you could spare me a little fish, I will be very happy!”

The end

Thanks for D mama to give me points. I have changed some grammer and vocabulary mistakes. I also changed the "rats" with "mice" as mice are cute and sweet but rats are dirty, living in sewers.

I hope the idea of the cats eating mice will not upset children.
