Does anybody knows what is pre-existing illness?Because normally most funds don't cover pre-existing illness or you have to wait long period to get covered, b ut we want to know how the fund will judge the illness is pre-existing or new, when we make the claim, what type of evidence we have to provide or they looking for to prove it is not pre-existing.
For example, if my mum just had a angina pectoris, before never has this symptom,   it will be considered new illness or pre- existed.
And how about ambulance cover, it covers urgent medical condition caused by pre-existing iillness or not?

does it means everytime when you make claim, it does need receipt and together with GP's medical certificate as well, even you just see GP for flu.?

correct.You'd have to attach the medical certificate together with the claim form.
at least this is required by HBA.
Mind you all the medical expense may not be 100% covered by the private insurance even if it's a bulk billing GP.

Good , you mentioned HBA. Interesting thing, I had a look at their claim form, actually in the back of form is medical certificate,but on the top clearly stated: Please complete if claiming for a pre-existing medical condition. in another word, I would understand; if not pre-existing condition, don't need to complete this certificate, isn't it?
or maybe in reality, it requires the certificate in both condition, no matter it is pre-existing or not( like you said, have you claimed before?)

And please tell me the exception which would not  be covered for bulk billing GP( because when we made enquiry to HBA, sales team told us it fully covers bulk billing gp, same as medicare card, whichever will be covered under medicare card, they will cover as well.) so confusing!

i said so because i claimed twice for my parents. I made numerous calls just to chase up the claims. No matter whether it's preexist or not, you need to fill in that medical certificate.
HBA sales people keep saying that this insurance can cover all the scheduled fees that are covered by medicare. But in reality, your GP would charge those patients more if they don't have medicare card. Therefore you'd have to pay for the gap. If the patient needs to take some blood tests, then it'd be another gap charge for patient without medicare card.
I ended up paying 400 dollars out of pocket when both of my parents just had some routine blood tests.  
You'll have to visit GP for blood test results as well.
So check with the GP before doing any checkup.
I don't know why I can be bothered to write that much. I must be bored at work.

It sounds like not good cover, especially the claiming process part, or maybe just normal, other funds are doing same thing!

i reckon they're pretty much the same.
there's no waiting period for HBA.
I think Medibank have 2 month waiting period.
The claim process is slow coz you'll have to mail them the claim forms. You can't claim visitor cover over the counter!!!! how ridiculous is that!!

pre-existing illness will have 1 year waiting period, So i don't know have you whether had any difficulty to make the claim-I mean not only take long time, also have the possibility to be rejected-they could say the illness would be pre-existing, you have to wait 1 year to claim it.
   I think they pretty strict to the overseas vistors cover- because that would not be the majority of their client groups, and there is a legal requirement to buy the insurance when they reach certain age, they probably don't need to worry about how to attract that type of clients.
