We have an exciting opportunity for a systems developer to join our
team of molecular biologists and computational scientists, to help
towards making discoveries in biomedical research. The role will
involve development of databases and applications designed to help the
biologists to access and analyse experimentally generated data in
effective ways. More specifically, the project involves manipulating
microarray and next generation sequencing data using existing and
novel approaches. A variety of programmatic tools, such as python,
java, php, c++, mysql and others will be used as needed. The position
also involves liaising with interstate collaborators, and developed
tools may be used by collaborators nation-wide. There is a great team
environment fostering flexibility and autonomy, and this is a growing
field as research in molecular biology is producing ever increasing
amounts of data.
To be considered for the position, the applicant should have:
- B.Sc. or an equivalent, with a background in one of computing,
mathematics, statistics or biology areas an advantage
- Experience with programming and databases, preferably in python,
mysql and web based application development
- Strong problem solving skills and interest in working in a research
environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
The appointment level and salary will depend on qualifications and
previous experience. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive
salary packaging options are available.
