A family of lines have equations of the form y = − b x + c , where b and c are positive numbers.
Let O denote the origin, and let A and B be the x -axis and y -axis intercepts of the line y = − b x + c.
i. If the midpoint M of the line segment AB is (3,6), find the values of b and c.
ii. If the triangle AOB has area 4, find c in terms of b.
iii. If the midpoint M of AB is such that OM=5 , find c in terms of b. Then use your calculator to find the value of c when b=5,10,100. Comment. |
