Online Audition Registration for Years 7 and 11 2018 has closed.
If you are seeking enrolment for Years 7 or 11 2019, please register via our online registration from early to mid Term 1 2018.
Important Dates
Closing date for online Audition Registration is 1st May 2017.
Auditions will be held during the last two weeks of Term 2.
If you are seeking enrolment for Years 8, 9 or 10, please visit our website in September of the year before enrolment to register your expression of interest. Please note, historically very few if any positions become available for these years and therefore auditions will only be held if vacancies are likly to exist.
Newtown High School of the Performing Arts does NOT have set open days. Instead for your convenience an information seminar will be held on the day of your child's audition.
Who can apply for an audition?
Candidates must be Australian Citizens or holders of a visa granting permanent resident status in Australia to be eligible to apply. Auditions are held annually at the end of Term 2 for students seeking enrolment in Year 7 or Year 11. Students can audition in one or two of the three performing arts disciplines (Dance, Drama and Music) offered at our school. Our auditions are conducted as group workshops 2 hours for Year 6 students and 2&1/2 hours for Year 10 students. Please read the descriptions for each discipline by selecting from the menu on the left. Lodge your expression of interest to audition by clicking on the Application form from the menu on the left.
Conditions
Each audition is assessed on its own merits. The examiner's decision is final and no appeal can be made except on procedure. Information on individual student's performance in their audition will not be given. The purpose of the audition is for the school to select the top students as assessed by the examiners. These are the conditions under which students and parents/carers must agree to when applying to audition.
Audition Day
On the day of your audition, students register at the Studio Theatre and are taken to their audition by our friendly and very capable Year 9 students. After the audition, students will be collected and taken back to the Studio Theatre where they will wait for the short list to be posted. Successful short listed students will then have an interview with the School Principal and School Counsellor. Students who are not short listed are unsuccessful in that audition.
Offers and Waiting List
Firm offers of a place are posted to families in term 3. Students who are not initially offered a place will be asked if they wish to be placed on the waiting list. Positions on the Waiting List are determined by the student's ranking in their successful discipline. No information regarding student ranking or position on the Waiting List will be given.
