Turns out that Bill Gates was not the only famous Microsoftidentity to be spotted at the Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Numerous bloggers also observed the cameo played by theso-called Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) - the Windows error screenthat flashes up on your computer, signifying that it's time toreboot.
The screen was projected onto the roof of the National Stadiumduring the grand finale to the four-hour spectacular as veteranChinese gymnast Li Ning, suspended 70 metres above the stadiumfloor, "jogged" towards the Olympic torch.
The BSoD message begins with the following sentence: "A problemhas been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damageto your computer."
Usually, the only way to remove the BSoD is to restart yourcomputer pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Delete buttons at the same time.
Images of the malfunction have popped up on Chinese forum sitesshowing the clearly visible error message projection.
The ceremony, which featured 14,000 performers depicting 5000years of Chinese history, also involved the use of advancedtechnology to control the sound, lights and projectors.
At various times during the event, images of whales, clouds, andthe faces of young children were superimposed on the roof thestadium - also known as the Bird's Nest.
And as Li Ning completed a lap of the stadium roof's rim, imagesof the torch relay were flashed up.
The spectacular opening ceremony also included 35,000 fireworkslaunched from 1800 sites around the city, to form patterns in theair.
Yesterday it was revealed that organisers digitally insertedcomputer-enhanced images of some of the firework displays broadcastduring the opening ceremony.
The BSoD is a bit of an in-joke among geeks and is often used topoke fun at Microsoft's bug-prone Windows operating system.
Gates, who stepped down from his last official full-timeposition at Microsoft at the end of June, remains as the softwarecompany's part-time, non-executive chairman.
He has been spotted at several Olympic events, accompanied byhis wife and is here is a private capacity. Microsoft is designatedas an official supplier to the 2008 Olympic Games.
It's Windows XP operating system was chosen to run on all PCsused by the organisers a well as being the operating systeminstalled on PCs supplied by Lenovo Group, the computer maker thanis one of the major sponsors of the 2008 Olympics.
Microsoft's newer operating system, Vista, was not chosen.
Lenovo chairman, Yang Yuanqing, was quoted as saying thatbecause of the complexity of the IT functions at the Games, it wasdecided to not use the the more recent operating system. "If it'snot stable, it could have some problems," he said.

1. There is a famous screen saver which mimics BSOD;
2. BSOD is mostly caused by hardware malfunctioning or serious software error. All OS kernel will halt and dump memory when this kind of error is encountered.
3. This blogger is a shit digger. All he does is dig shit all day long, same as another famous Hutcheon, the one that used to be the ABC correspondent in Beijing. Apparently reporting China is their family business, and they're totally incompetent at doing it.

It's totally fine to make fun of Windows; I don't work for Microsoft anyway. But it becomes not funny when joke become prejudice, and prejudice become biased opinions. In this particular case though, it's just the name "Hutcheon" disgusts me totally. This is a family of China haters who can't even get simple facts right most of the time.
