How to say 'Hi' to Harry and Meghan, according to an etiquette expert

Bow, curtsy, maybe even shake hands — but never tap them on the shoulder

If British Columbians happen to spot the much-talked-about Duke and Duchess of Sussex, treat them like cats: let them come to you.

Vancouver etiquette expert Elizabeth Burnett says it's important not to approach them.

"I would wait for them to attend to me," Burnett told Kathryn Marlow, guest host of CBC's All Point West. "I wouldn't just go up and tap him on the shoulder and say, 'Oh, hello, Harry, how are you?'"

"We have to remember that Harry will always be royal," she added. "It's in his blood."

It was late last year that we started to hear reports about a new virus that had infected some people in the Chinese city of Wuhan. They reckon it might have started in this market where there was a lot of raw meat and animals. Pretty quickly it started to spread, some people died and the news reports about coronavirus got more serious and regular.

So why are people so worried? ... Although most people who've caught this coronavirus have recovered. The real concern is how fast this one is spreading.

There have now been more than 40,000 confirmed cases. Most of those have been in China. But the virus has now been found in at least 25 countries and some are worried about it spreading even further. To try and stop that from happening the World Health Organisation has declared a global health emergency. Which is basically a way of encouraging governments around the world to take this seriously and do what they can to stop it.

Back here in Australia there's only been around a dozen cases of coronavirus but it's still having a big effect on a lot of people. Aussies who were stuck in Wuhan have been sent to Christmas Island for two weeks so authorities can check they're not sick.

The government has also banned Chinese people who aren't citizens or permanent residents from coming into the country. That's hurting a lot of businesses that rely on Chinese visitors. It's also hard for international students who are missing class time and families who are being kept apart. But the government says it's about keeping people safe.

SCOTT MORRISON, PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA: I want to assure Australians that we are doing everything that we can, and through these actions to protect Australia from what is an escalating threat and a constantly changing situation.

It all sounds pretty intense, right? But don't worry too much. Experts say there's no need to panic. Your chances of getting coronavirus are really low and like we said most people who get it get better. The best way to protect yourself is to do things you should do anyway like covering your mouth when you cough and washing your hands regularly. Meanwhile, scientists are working hard to develop a vaccine and hopefully, it won't be too long before coronavirus isn't in the news so much.

1. New York City lawmakers have banned cashless businesses. With the non-stop push to replace cash with plastic or digital payments, officials decided cash is still important in our lives. Stores, restaurants and other outlets can no longer refuse cash. Officials want people to be able to pay with notes and coins. Businesses in New York City will not be able to insist that customers use cashless payments in any transactions.

2. The advance of technology in our lives has been halted somewhat in New York City. Lawmakers have passed a bill to ban cashless businesses. With many parts of the world in a seemingly relentless drive to replace cash with plastic or digital payments, New York City officials have decided cash still has a valuable part to play in our lives. The officials have approved legislation that prohibits stores, restaurants and other retail outlets from refusing to accept cash. They want to provide the ability for people who prefer to pay via traditional means, through notes and coins. This means businesses in the city will no longer be able to insist that customers make use of cashless payments in any transactions.

3. New York became the latest city to tell businesses they must accept cash. The bill, which prevents most retailers from refusing to accept cash or charging customers more if they use it, was approved by the city council Thursday. The law will go into effect nine months after it is signed by Mayor Bill de Blasio, who supports it. New York joins Philadelphia, San Francisco and the state of New Jersey in passing legislation that lawmakers say will prevent businesses from enacting policies that shut out the millions of Americans who don't have a bank account, lack credit cards or don't have photo identification.

plastic: If you use plastic or plastic money to pay for something, you pay for it with a credit card instead of using cash.

Holden汽车要淡出了

Holden to 'retire' its car brand across Australia and New Zealand by 2021, 600 jobs to go

About 600 Holden employees will lose their jobs after General Motors announced it would axe the iconic Australian car brand by the end of the year.

GM said the brand was no longer competitive in the current market and would be "retired" from sales, design and engineering across Australia and New Zealand by 2021.

很可惜啊,公司挺不住了,那么这个品牌是怎么起家的呢?公司网页上说

No other car company has shaped Australia in so many ways, for so long. Established as a saddle maker in 1856, Holden has come a long way. And we’re still going places.

好吧,马鞍和汽车同属交通工具,从马鞍到汽车,这个品牌还是非常与时俱进的,不知为啥就不能再来一次革命,转身变成电动车呢?

Sydney Metro flooding prompts review of network after 37 weeks of service

Extreme flooding within the Sydney Metro should be the catalyst for the NSW government to consider making changes to the multi-billion dollar system, the state’s transport boss says.

More than five million litres of water poured into the Metro tunnels over the weekend, flooding the deepest areas up to platform height and cancelling parts of services for three days.

catalyst:NOUN
1. a person or thing acting as the stimulus in bringing about or hastening a result.
2. In chemistry, a catalyst is a substance that causes a chemical reaction to take place more quickly.
