My wife and I our going to my office x-mas party and after 5 attire is required. What exactly does that mean?

It means dress-casual. Not necessarily what YOU would wear after you get home, but what nice, middle class suburbanites would wear after five. Sport shirt with a collar, but no tie, perhaps a button down collar. Creased slacks, or dark indigo jeans, but wear some nice casual shoes as most people judge others by their choice of shoes.
