Methylated Spirits is poisonous，别说我没告诉你
Methylated Spirits 最初是用甲醇和乙醇混合所以是poisonous，但是后来有几个土著人买了它当白酒喝出事了，现在所有的 Methylated Spirits全部只能用乙醇制作然后再加一个苦味剂防止有人买来当超廉价的伏特加。
这是Whirlpool论坛里有人做的蒸馏实验
I have been distilling Diggers Metho. Here are the facts
1. There is no Methanol in it. Its about 95% ethanol, 4.9% water, .1% Bittering agents.
2. Do a fractional distillation and you remove a hydrocarbon that smells very much like thinners used in car paint.
3. Add acid and fractional distill and you remove a salt crystal that is the main bittering agent
The important bit
4. The remaining is all ethanol and one minor bittering agent that has to be an ester as its has a very fruity/floral smell.
5. Add water to this at 50% ethanol strength, and the easter comes out of solution (it goes cloudy)
6. It is non toxic by the way, leaves a extremely slight tingle at the front of the mouth, and is quite pleasant.
So at present that's what I know is in it. I contacted Diggers and they confirm there are no actual toxic compounds in their metho, appartly worried about being sued by metho drinkers.
