Strictly speaking liability will rest with your wife as she appears to have been negligent in failing to secure or control the trolley whilst she was using it.
However, if you have house or contents insurance you may be indemnified by your insurer as such insurance usually comes with a public liability extension to cover acts of negligence of this sort.
In the absence of such insurance, however, your wife is liable and all she can do is try to haggle with the insurer as to the amount for which she is reasonably liable, but ultimately if the case is as clear cut as it seems there probably isn't much scope for having the insurer discount their claim.
